Walk With Me

Summary

Rural Realists live up to their name. Employed in industries like mining, retail and community services, they hold responsible roles and earn decent money — but still find time for fun. Mainly young and mid-life families living in large regional centres and country towns, however some households with similar characteristics can be found in urban areas. They’re sociable, extroverted and always busy.

Walk with Me

Living in Karratha can be hard sometimes. It’s so far from civilisation! Most of the blokes I work with do fly-in fly-out rosters from Perth, but I took a two-year contract and moved my family here from NSW. My daughter Kayla is still so young, it won’t affect her schooling, and Leanne’s been really supportive.

I’m a fixed plant electrician for a major mining company. It’s hard work, but not the kind of job you take home with you, if you know what I mean. And great pay! I’ve managed to save heaps, even with the high rent I’m paying. Should be able to afford a deposit on a nice place once we go home.

Living in the Wild West has its perks. We’re not far from the beach, so we take full advantage of that. Plus there’s the Millstream-ChichesterNational Park: we go camping there sometimes. We’re planning to drive to Ningaloo during my next holidays – who needs overseas when we’ve got such amazing attractions down the road? I’ve been checking accommodation online and you can get awesome deals if you go out of season.

I’ve made some great mates since we’ve been here; we hang out a lot. Last Saturday Leanne and I had everyone over for a dinner party – ended up being too hot to cook, though, so we ordered pizza! Other times, we’ll meet down the pub for a game of pool or darts. Yeah, it’s all good.
